Project Three Reflections
News Site

For the News Site, I decided to recreate the Grady Newsource website. This part of the project was genuinely a lot of fun, since I'm a technical volunteer manager with Newsource and know some of the people who wrote the stories I used. I actually worked backwards and chose my theme before really having my content, but thankfully my theme ended up working really well. I customized a lot of the CSS by using the font Grady Newsource uses and by changing the main site color to the official UGA red, according to the University's Brand Style Guide. I learned how to further use the Inspect tool in order to find a site's images, HTML, and CSS. This process is tedious and seems overwhelming at first, but taking the time to figure out how everything works together in a website is very important. I'm personally really proud of how well the theme worked out and looks like a genuine news site.
Commerce Site

Making the Commerce Site was not as exciting for me as the News Site. Although I literally used my own products straight off my Redbubble account, I don't think I was that attached to the site simply because the Storefront theme wasn't as interesting. However, being able to make my products have an unrealistic price and dumb descriptions was fun. I was able to work more with categories and displaying them specifically on my shop, as well as use product spotlights on the homepage. I wish I would have added more to the homepage, but for the life of me, I could not figure out how to add in fake reviews. I think it was because we turned off comments when setting up the site and adjusting the WordPress settings, so I didn't want to mess anything up. I made up for the lack of reviews by having intriguing descriptions, galleries, and features on the products I fleshed out. One of my favorite features of this website was the site icon in the browser tab. It's a little hard to see, but I think it's cute and helps tie the whole site together.
